How Melbourne Taxi Fares Work
Book Melbourne Taxi fares as at 2026:
- Flag fall: $9.90
- Per kilometre, Monday to Thursday: $2.20
- Per kilometre, Friday to Sunday: $2.30
- Per kilometre, 10pm to 4am: $2.34
- Minimum fare: $39.90
- Airport pickup fee (Melbourne and Avalon Airport): $5.26
- Maxi cab surcharge: $17.80 on top of the sedan fare for the same trip
Road tolls are not included in the prices in this guide. They are added when your route uses a toll road.
How Much Is a Taxi from Melbourne Airport to the CBD?
A taxi from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) to the CBD is from $65 with Book Melbourne Taxi at the weekday daytime rate, including the $5.26 airport pickup fee. CityLink tolls are extra. The trip is approximately 23 km and takes 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.
For a maxi cab carrying a group, the same trip is from $82 for the whole vehicle, regardless of how many passengers up to 11.

Maxi Cab Fares
A maxi cab carries up to 11 passengers and costs the standard sedan fare plus $17.80 for the same trip. There is no charge per passenger. The $17.80 surcharge is the same whether you have 5 passengers or 11.
For a group of 8 flying from Dandenong, the maxi cab fare to the airport is from $157, which works out to about $19.63 per person. That is less than most individual ride share fares for the same route.
Night and Weekend Rates Explained
Between 10pm and 4am the per km rate is $2.34 instead of the $2.20 weekday daytime rate. A CBD to airport trip that is from $60 on a weekday afternoon is from $63 at 2am. The maxi surcharge applies at any hour.
From Friday to Sunday the daytime rate is $2.30 per km, so a Saturday afternoon trip costs slightly more than the same trip on a Tuesday afternoon.
